Electrotherapy treatments offered by Deluxe Vet Physio include:

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy or PMFT enhances the body’s healing process using dynamic magnets, with a pulsed current to restore or change a cell's potential.

How can PMFT benefit my animal?

  • Reduces muscle spasm
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Aids fracture repair
  • Aids nerve regeneration
  • Reduce/control pain

FMBS Rug

Uses a range of different frequencies to help stimulate different cells in the body, helping them to work more efficiently. It can be used for general health and well-being as well as rehabilitation and healing such as repair of soft tissue injuries, reducing inflammation, Azoturia pain relief and fracture repair.

Extracorporeal Radial Shockwave Therapy

Developed initially in the early 80s focussed shockwave therapy was used to treat kidney stones and other ailments without the need for surgery. However, the treatment was often uncomfortable for the patient but progress, development and research since has led to the innovative, effective and more comfortable radial shockwave therapy as an application for treating musculoskeletal conditions.

Deluxe Vet Physio can apply the EMS Physio Primo Radial Shockwave Therapy with various sized treatment tips and programs to treat different conditions. The application is effective and the electromagnetically driven ballistic shockwaves are not as noisy as compressor driven varieties, nor is it as uncomfortable to receive the therapy as focussed shockwaves can be.

The aim of the therapy is to cause disruption in the tissue to the extent that a healing process is started with increased circulation on difficult to treat tendon areas and as trigger point therapy in hard muscle. An analgesic effect can also be felt by the animal.

In difficult to treat cases where medication or surgery may be considered, shockwave therapy can sometimes be a truly amazing alternative and far less invasive. It is therefore far more cost saving. It works on chronic and acute conditions and there is no need for sedation as the treatment can usually be received well by the animal.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves to promote healing and relieve pain. The sound waves penetrate deep into the tissues, creating gentle heat and stimulating cellular activity to aid in the repair process.

How can ultrasound benefit my animal?

  • Reduces inflammation: Helps manage swelling associated with injuries.
  • Enhances tissue repair: Stimulates cell regeneration in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
  • Alleviates pain: Provides a soothing effect on inflamed or damaged tissues.
  • Improves circulation: Boosts blood flow to targeted areas, supporting the healing process.
  • Softens scar tissue: Aids in the breakdown of adhesions and fibrous tissue.

Ultrasound therapy is particularly effective in addressing soft tissue injuries, tendonitis, and muscle strains, and can be used in combination with other treatments to optimise recovery and improve your animal's comfort.

Laser Phototherapy

Laser phototherapy uses blue, infrared and visible red light applied to an area using high intensity light emitting diodes. The energy transferred from the light beam to the targeted tissue alters the chemical structure within the cells of the tissue, or in the form of heat.

Different colour lasers have different uses and depths of penetration.

Blue Phototherapy

Is useful in treating infected wounds, for example cuts, gingivitis, mud fever, rainscald etc.

Visible Red Phototherapy And Infrared

Visible Red Phototherapy And Infrared

Penetrates deeper into the tissue to:

  • Enhance wound repair
  • Increase circulation
  • Reduce muscle spasm in conjunction with manual treatment.

Red light phototherapy has also been proven successful used alongside veterinary treatment of muscle, tendon and ligament strains, which are very common in horses.

Transcutaneus Electrical Nerve Stimulation

(TENS) is primarily used for pain control by causing release of neurotransmitters for example serotonin, β endorphin and other hormones.

This electrotherapy stimulates sensory and motor neurons to help reduce pain. It can also be used post surgery or injury to manage chronic or acute pain. TENS may also be used to produce some muscle contraction.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation

NMES works using a small electrical current to stimulate movement on targeted muscles.

When used in small doses NMES can:

  • Rebuild muscle mass
  • Maintain muscle mass
  • Control pain

This electrotherapy can be useful in paralysed or recumbent dogs to maintain muscle mass and prevent atrophy.
